It's fun when the magazine runs my favorite image from a shoot. I love the shot they chose for this article on Domenico Winery.

Northern California Solo Road Trip
I got a job for the Trust for Public Land up in Northern California and I did some solo camping while I was up there. My main goal was to let curiosity be my guide, not worry about a timeframe and just explore. It was great! Not pictured is a baby black bear that I saw while I was driving. I had just rounded a corner and I saw him running as fast as he could (after his mom I'm sure) across the last bit of road and jump into the woods.

BUGS!
I shot this story on eating bugs for Lufthansa Magazine. I have no idea what it says! I can tell you that I ate all of the bugs pictured below and they were tasty. Especially the mealworms from Don Bugito and (not pictured) Bitty Foods' cricket flour cookies.

Daniel Handler for Dumbo Feather
I was honored to photograph the author, Daniel Handler, recently for Dumbo Feather Magazine. And...he's kind of my neighbor! Although I had to hike up a BIG hill to get to his house. Which was fine, I needed a minute to calm the nerves. My kids and I read his entire Series of Unfortunate Events when they came out, so it was quite the thing to get to meet him in person.
Dumbo Feather is a beautiful quarterly publication. It is printed on amazing thick matte paper and features thought-provoking interviews in conversation format. It's such a treat (especially these days) to see your images printed on really good paper, and alongside meaningful content.

Healdsburg for Delta Sky
Got to explore Healdsburg for Delta Sky Magazine. Sipped some tasty wine and stayed in a very cute motel, the L & M. Comfort without Extravagance is their motto, I like that. Sometimes I want just the basics so I can focus on the task at hand. Fresh scones in the morning baked by the owner were a sweet touch. She even ran one out to my car as I was leaving in the early morning dark to catch the sunrise to make sure I got one.

Swan's Market in Downtown Oakland
Spent a couple days photographing the fine folks and delicious food at Swan's Market in Old Oakland for Diablo Magazine. The market fills an entire city block and has a diverse and vibrant community feel. Originally called the Housewives Market, many people mentioned going there with their parents or grandparents to shop, eat and socialize 30 or 40 years ago. After closing for some time, and recently having been revitalized, Swan's is bustling once again and has a great welcoming and down to earth feel.

Kare Anderson for Dumbo Feather
I photographed speaker and writer Kare Anderson at her home in Sausalito. I had all these lovely ideas about photographing her walking around in her hillside neighborhood, and in her cute backyard- but it ended up pouring rain. I got this shot in the (literally) four minutes we had before the sky opened up. NOT that I'm complaining about rain in California, last December was pretty much the last time we got a good rain here. You can check out the article in Dumbo Feather here and see her TED Talk on being an opportunity maker here.

Dinner at Pink Zebra SF
I asked my daughter Araya and our friend Andrew to play 'friends catching up date night' for this shoot and it turned out very sweet! Thank you to two wonderful young people who have a lot going for them. You can find Araya creating delicious cocktails at Rye most weekends and Andrew owns Trumpet Wine and provides much of Pink Zebra's wine list.
Pink Zebra serves Mediterranean inspired Japanese food in the Mission district in San Francisco. Go eat there, it's delicious they play great records! See more images of their food at the restaurant's website here.

DIALOGUE Festive Seasonal Dinner with Tina Dang
I was invited (and jumped at the chance) to photograph a lovely, late autumn, seasonal dinner collaboration with DIALOGUE and Tina Dang. DIALOGUE is a dinner series organized by Rimma Boshernitsan focused on bringing together curious minds to break bread and connect through dialogue. Tina is an personal chef, and one of those people who is full of life and just makes you feel good about yourself when you're around her. More of that please! So uplifting to spend an evening with these inspiring ladies and their guests!
More images can be viewed on my website gallery here. Enjoy!
