Jesse and I celebrated my birthday in Tomales Bay at Hog Island eating Oysters and drinking champagne. It was a perfect day.

North Country

My mom and I spent a few days visiting my Aunt Nikki in upstate New York. Mom and Nikki have known each other since high school. They share a love of gardening, nature, books, and books on nature- especially Gene Stratton-Porter. We spend a few days exploring, picking flowers, shopping for pumpkins, harvesting porcupine quills and bittersweet vine, and driving around Saratoga Springs which is known for it's race track and it's mineral springs. I love Autumn!

Autumn in Farm Country

My Aunts Holli and Jenny have been working on their cabin in the woods outside of Laurelville, Ohio for ten years or more. They are finally living there full time. On my visit there were plenty of morning walks in the beautiful woods, corn fields, curious neighbors, pumpkin patches, collaborative meals, fresh apple cider and no cell service. Gotta love that.

Pumpkin Obsession

My mom has a bit of a pumpkin obsession. Every year as soon as September hits she starts looking for pumpkins to decorate her yard...and house...and porch, and to give away to friends and family. This year we happened to take a trip during that time to visit my aunts, one in Saratoga Springs, New York, and two in Laurelville, Ohio. The whole time she shopped for pumpkins. She claimed they were having a 'bad year for pumpkins' in Florida where she lives...but I think she just wanted to shop for pumpkins.

In Ohio we were lucky enough to come across Roger Kline who is just as passionate about pumpkins and gourds as she is, and who usually takes a first place ribbon or two in the Circleville Pumpkin Show. She was like a kid in a candy store. It's a good thing she just so happened to bring an extra bag to bring all her bright orange treasures home.

Poppies at the Conservatory of Flowers

Love to walk into the Golden Gate Park in the late afternoon and see what they have planted at the Conservatory of Flowers. Today it was poppies.

Kaliope Floral Design

Kim Adcox is a floral designer based in Portland, Oregon. We met years ago when we were both waiting tables at Blowfish. We also both started our businesses at the same time after getting schooled at Women's Initiative. We often share our business triumphs...and occasionally our business woes.

I recently tagged along with her to the flower market and then observed her process as she carefully pondered colors, textures and composition to create bouquets for our friends Meredith and Dave's wedding.

The result was stunning!

Sunny Family Florida Fun

I grew up in Gainesville, Florida and I try to make at least one summer visit to soak up some vitamin D and eat my fill of southern food. Since June through August here is San Francisco is foggy and fairly disappointing, I feel cheated if I don't go somewhere warm for a few weeks. I am happy to live on watermelon, boiled p-nuts, Sonny's BBQ, and lots of veggies from my mom's garden while I'm there. It's wonderful to not have an agenda for the day except to drink lots of water, swim, read, and visit.

Chris' Bahnmi Stand at Four Barrel Coffee

My friend Chris had a bahnmi pop up at Four Barrel Coffee, so we had to stop by and try the goods. Delish! Especially with watermelon fresca. It was fun to watch the colorful cast of mission characters stop by for lunch. They all left with a smile on their face after eating her delicious sandwich:)

It is easy to see why everyone loves Four Barrel-everyone there is super nice, the space is beautiful and the coffee is excellent. Thanks Jermey and Laura for your hospitality!

Indian Wedding

This past November I traveled with my family to India to attend the wedding of my sister-and-brother-in- law. The wedding was in Nasik which is about four hours north of Bombay. We were there for barely a week and it was a whirlwind of traveling, ceremonies, meeting new family, learning new customs, delicious food, upset stomachs, shopping and drinking and visiting and fun fun times. There were about 20 of us that traveled from the US to attend the wedding, and we all donned traditional Indian clothes for the three days of ceremonies. Wrapping a sari is an art in itself, and I had to have help getting dressed several days in a row. There’s nothing like nine yards of fabric to make you feel completely intimidated, but also nothing like a bunch of graceful ladies fussing over you to make you feel special.

Pretty Green Girl

I recently discovered a blog I love: Pretty Green Girl. Janet is so inspiring (and adorable!) that I had to shoot some photos of her in action. She baked Savory Broccoli Cakes (yum!) from a recipe which she got here. Check out Pretty Green Girl for useful tips on sustainable living and get ready to be inspired!

As always many thanks to Nikol Elaine for making everyone look beautiful!
