Record Shopping

Some of the images from my current promo: Record Shopping on Haight Street. We visited Rooky's Records and Groove Merchant both in Lower Haight. 

I only own one record, (which I bought solely for the cover picture of Cindy Lauper a la Man Ray by Annie Leibovitz). But one thing I learned from hanging out in record stores all day long is that it will put you in a really good mood.

Cozy Day

I have had family here from Florida for the past week for an early holiday visit. My house was packed full of people I love and don't get to see often enough. Never a dull moment!

Now it's a chilly, foggy day and the house is way too quiet and empty. Tea in my delicate new pink cups was just what the doctor ordered.

Truffle Hunting in Alba

In the spirit of Autumn I pulled some Farina Cookbook images from the archives.

One of the most unique experiences I had while shooting the cookbook was truffle hunting in Alba, Italy. As I'm sure you know, truffle foragers (like mushroom foragers) are VERY secretive about their truffle spots. It was quite an honor to get to tag along and take pictures.

Since we were in Italy at the height of truffle season, we ate truffles every single night at dinner, no exaggerating...and we were there for ten days. It was a rich and intense dining experience.

Kim and Nick got Married

Jesse and I spent some time up in Portland with our friends Kim and Nick in the days leading up to their wedding. This involved spurts of wedding prep interspersed with getting to know Kim and Nick's family, hanging out with our dearest friends, and followed by late night visits to fun bars in our area. A little work and a lot of fun!

Outerlands

"A gathering place for sea goers who seek warmth, shelter, food, and fellowship"

Outerlands is a cozy restaurant located near Ocean Beach in San Francisco. They have a welcoming vibe and their homemade bread is hands down my absolute favorite.  While there are gorgeous warm days, it's usually quite chilly out by the beach. It's a most delicious way to warm up a visit to the foggy outer edge of the city.

Pelican Rock for Diablo Magazine

I shot for Diablo Magazine. Love getting out of the city and seeing what's going on in the East Bay. The story, which you can read here, features Pelican Rock, a preppy men's store with a cute, peppy owner in downtown Walnut Creek.

Hummingbird Girls: Bohemian

I got together with the Hummingbird Girls one more time before Jen moved to Ann Arbor for school. We wanted to do something totally different than the last time we collaborated, so we went darker with lace and velvet. Here is their post of the shoot.

I was having a hard time saying goodbye to summer and feeling inspired for fall, but happily this shoot helped me come around.

Don't Go

Everyone is talking of fall, but I'm not ready to let go of summer! While we are spoiled with our 'temperate' weather here in San Francisco, some of our summer months still can be a little disappointing with stretches of fog and cold wind. 

I want to hang on to the warm parts of summer as long as possible.

Fishing

Went ocean fishing with Jesse and his Dad while we were in San Diego. A friend pointed out recently that on my time off I went camping and fishing-basically spent all my time out in nature. I think I really needed to get out of the city and to unplug and do something real and tactile. Sticking hooks through little sardines' gills and pulling in sea bass, rock fish and mackerel that we later cooked for dinner was definitely just the thing! Sounds so barbaric as I write this but it was great!

The Queen's Kickshaw

The Queen's Kickshaw is owned by my friends Ben and Jen, who have created a warm and welcoming gathering place with a seasonal menu of specialty coffee, european-inspired artisinal grilled cheese sandwiches, and craft beer, in Astoria, Queens. I recently spent an afternoon there...

Puppy Love

My friend Harold got a puppy; her name is Xena. We took the little bundle of joy to the park for the afternoon. What a sweetheart!
